A South Dakota high school soccer match between Brookings and Rapid City Central was interrupted by a fight on Aug. 14 after an on-field confrontation escalated into punches and a kick to an opponent’s head. Reports from the New York Post and The Sun said Rapid City Central’s Jaxson Bergman shoved Brookings player Kyler Soost down, then kicked and punched him before other players intervened. Brookings was reportedly leading 2-0 before halftime. The match was paused for about 10 minutes and later resumed, with Brookings winning 2-0, according to the reports. A video posted by South Dakota sports reporter Matt Kerney on X spread widely afterward.
