Iranian Army chief Amir Hatami announced Sunday a $30,000 reward for anyone who kills or captures and hands over an American servicemember, according to Iranian state-linked reporting citing his remarks in Tehran. The reward, described as 5 billion tomans, would reportedly double to $60,000 if carried out by a woman. Hatami said the initiative followed requests from Iranians seeking to provide financial support for the military effort. The announcement comes amid the continuing U.S.-Iran conflict and heightened tensions around the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz. Independent reporting notes that no sustained U.S. ground-force deployment inside Iran has been established, although a U.S. rescue mission followed a downed American aircraft earlier this year. Hatami did not specify where or when the bounty could be collected. The announcement establishes an Iranian reward, but no evidence shows anyone has claimed it or that a U.S. servicemember has been captured under the program.
