Tyson Foods Shuts Down Two U.S. Plants

Tyson Foods said Aug. 13 it will close beef operations in Joslin, Illinois, and Eagle Mountain, Utah, while seeking a buyer for its Pasco, Washington, facility, as historically tight cattle supplies pressure processors. Tyson said the changes will consolidate its beef network around Dakota City, Nebraska; Holcomb, Kansas; and Amarillo, Texas, where it expects greater efficiency and capacity utilization. The company did not provide a total number of affected workers in its announcement, although local reporting said more than 2,700 Joslin employees face job losses. Tyson expects its beef segment to post an adjusted operating loss of $500 million to $650 million in fiscal 2026, after reporting a $138 million loss in the third quarter. USDA data show 94.2 million cattle and calves on U.S. farms July 1, with beef cows down 1% and the calf crop down 2% year over year. The closures follow Tyson’s 2025 Lexington, Nebraska, shutdown.
