Hurricane Lala Barrels Toward Hawaii

Tropical Storm Lala was strengthening toward hurricane status Friday as it approached Hawaii, prompting a hurricane warning for Hawaii County and tropical-storm warnings elsewhere. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center said Lala had 60 mph sustained winds and was about 420 miles east-southeast of Hilo at 5 a.m. HST Friday, moving west-northwest at 12 mph.
