Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Austan Goolsbee stated on Thursday that recent United States inflation data has shown notable improvement. Speaking in a television interview, Goolsbee expressed optimism that transitory pressures stemming from import tariffs and elevated oil prices are beginning to recede. While acknowledging that overall price growth remains above the central bank's two percent target, he described incoming economic readings as encouraging. Last month, the Federal Reserve maintained its benchmark interest rate within the range of 3.50 percent to 3.75 percent during a contentious policy meeting. Personal consumption expenditures inflation registered at 3.7 percent in June, declining from a peak of 4.1 percent in May. Financial markets had previously anticipated potential interest rate increases for September following earlier spikes. However, milder consumer and producer price reports for July have shifted sentiment. Goolsbee emphasized that the American economy remains in a sensitive phase requiring careful monitoring of price components.
