US Military Fires Missiles to Disable Cargo Ship Violating Iran Blockade

The United States military used missiles to disable a cargo ship registered in Panama within the Gulf of Oman after the vessel allegedly attempted to breach the American naval blockade on Iranian ports, according to the United States Central Command. A United States Navy helicopter fired two Hellfire missiles into the engine room of the cargo ship, destroying its steering gear and halting its progression. Central Command stated that the civilian crew ignored repeated warnings issued by American forces before the strike was executed. Maritime security agencies reported that the vessel was intercepted 71 nautical miles off the coast while transiting westbound. No injuries were reported among the 17 crew members aboard. Central Command confirmed the vessel is no longer transiting toward Iran. This enforcement action marks the third time the United States has forcibly stopped a commercial vessel since the ports blockade was reinstated in July this year 2026.
