Mariners Reliever Gabe Speier Suspended for Three Games and Manager Dan Wilson for One Game

SEATTLE — Major League Baseball has suspended Seattle Mariners reliever Gabe Speier for three games following an incident in Wednesday night's game against the Detroit Tigers at T-Mobile Park. The announcement was issued on Thursday. Additionally, Mariners manager Dan Wilson received a one-game suspension to be served during the series finale against Detroit. The disciplinary action stems from an eighth-inning altercation during Seattle's 4-2 victory. Speier entered the game in relief of starting pitcher Bryan Woo. With two outs in the eighth inning, Speier threw two inside pitches to Detroit second baseman Gleyber Torres, the second of which struck Torres on the upper left leg at 96.3 mph. Following the pitch, Torres and Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh exchanged words, causing the benches and bullpens to clear and gather around home plate. No punches were thrown during the confrontation. In the aftermath, umpires ejected both Speier and Mariners manager Dan Wilson. According to the Major League Baseball Players Association, Speier is appealing the three-game ban and remains eligible to pitch until the appeal process is resolved. Because managers cannot appeal suspensions under league rules, Dan Wilson served his one-game ban during Thursday's series finale, with bench coach Manny Acta serving as acting manager. The tension during the contest followed multiple hit-by-pitch incidents. Starting pitcher Bryan Woo hit three Detroit batters—rookie Max Clark in the third inning, Riley Green in the fourth inning, and Zach McKinstry in the fifth inning—marking only the second time in Woo's career he has hit three batters in a single outing. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Detroit left-hander Enmanuel De Jesus hit Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh with a 95-mph fastball, preceding
