The action was taken after local news outlet The NC Beat reported that Boltinhouse allegedly operated an alias account under the name Sosa the Stallion between 2017 and 2019. During this timeframe, the posts contained repeated use of racial slurs, including the n-word, alongside statements where the user described herself as toxic. Miss USA Chief Executive Officer Thom Brodeur confirmed that Boltinhouse agreed to step down from her state title. Brodeur stated that the conduct violated the standards maintained by the pageant organization, emphasizing that the entity does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, or language that diminishes individual dignity. Brodeur noted that the decision was finalized after evaluating a pattern of behavior displayed over an extended period, moving forward as soon as the evidence was confirmed. In his public address, Brodeur emphasized that the Miss USA crown represents a position of trust rather than a mere decorative item, requiring titleholders to adhere to specific public standards.
