Left-wing Outsider Abdul El-Sayed Wins Contentious Michigan Democratic Senate Primary

Left-wing political outsider Abdul El-Sayed won the Michigan Democratic primary election for the United States Senate on Tuesday night. El-Sayed, the son of Egyptian immigrants, defeated establishment candidate Representative Haley Stevens. The victory positions him to potentially become the first Muslim U.S. senator if he wins the general election in November.The race was highly competitive and concluded with a narrow margin. With 90 percent of the vote counted, El-Sayed held 49 percent of the vote compared to 47 percent for Stevens. This represents a margin of approximately 28,000 votes.
