The full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia issued a major split ruling on Tuesday afternoon, dealing a significant legal blow to the Trump administration’s efforts to dismantle key environmental initiatives. The federal appeals court ruled that the administration acted unlawfully when it moved to permanently terminate the multi-billion-dollar Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, commonly referred to as the federal "green bank".The legal battle stems from early actions taken by Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin. Zeldin publicly accused Climate United Fund, alongside several other chosen non-profit groups picked to distribute the congressionally authorized money, of systemic mismanagement and potential financial fraud.
