Trump Unveils Sweeping New Tariff Wave Covering 99.4% of US Imports

PUBLISHED Jul 26, 2026, 6:59 AM ET

The United States has introduced a new wave of tariffs covering 99.4% of all U.S. imports, affecting goods from more than 60 countries, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced. The duties, ranging from 10% to 12.5%, are imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, the primary federal tool for addressing unfair trade practices and previously used during Donald Trump’s first term. The move follows the lapse of a temporary global 10% tariff regime that the Supreme Court ruled unlawful. Officials say the new tariffs respect trade agreement caps, while about $31 billion in earlier tariff revenue may face refund risks pending court outcomes.
