WASHINGTON — Anthony Davis is locked in a high-stakes contract standoff with the Washington Wizards, creating uncertainty over his long-term future with the franchise as he approaches a pivotal point in his current deal. The All-Star forward was acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in a major eight-player trade completed immediately before the NBA trade deadline, a move that signaled a significant reshaping of both organizations. Washington took on Davis with the understanding that his contract situation would be addressed in the ensuing offseason, while Dallas used the transaction to pivot toward a rebuilding strategy centered on rookie standout Cooper Flagg.
