Former South Carolina police officer Dan Hiers Jr., 53, has been returned to the United States from China after more than 20 years as a fugitive, the U.S. Marshals Service said Thursday. Hiers was taken into custody in Shanghai on Wednesday and escorted back by deputy marshals. He faces a Goose Creek warrant for the 2005 murder of his wife, 24-year-old Ludimila Hiers, who investigators allege was shot in the back of the head while sleeping, and a Dorchester County warrant for criminal sexual conduct with a minor stemming from 2004–2005 allegations. Local authorities say he will now face those longstanding charges in court.
