Former Soldier Detained After Setting Off Incendiary Device Outside NYC Federal Building

A 43-year-old former U.S. Army soldier, identified by authorities as Andrew Arrabaca, was taken into federal custody on Monday, July 20, 2026, after an alleged anti-government attack outside the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building in lower Manhattan. According to the FBI, Arrabaca arrived around 8:30 a.m. wearing a military-style helmet and pushing a cart bearing an “ICE Off Our Streets” sign. He allegedly poured gasoline at the building’s entrance, ignited it with a lighter and firework canister, and fired several airsoft pellets toward the doors before a Department of Homeland Security security officer tackled and detained him. No serious injuries were reported.
