The United States is convening a high-level summit on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the State Department in Washington, D.C., to address what it calls a resurgence of transnational far-left political terrorism. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is hosting the "Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism," attended by representatives from more than 65 countries across the Western Hemisphere, Europe, and Asia. The Trump administration argues far-left violence is an underrecognized security challenge and cites U.S. data for 2025 and European Union figures for 2024–2025 indicating far-left and anarchist groups account for a substantial share of anti-government and infrastructure-targeted attacks.
