ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel on Tuesday publicly addressed reports that his job might be in jeopardy, saying he has had conversations about a potential buyout and noting social media previously prematurely declared his firing multiple times. He made the remarks during a scheduled interview on The Big 1050 WTKA as coverage intensified about department culture.
University officials have confirmed attorney-directed investigations into the athletic department and the relationship involving fired football coach Sherrone Moore; spokesman Paul Corliss said Tuesday that related documents are privileged and may not be released. The probes have cost about $12 million to date, and the university has not announced a timeline for further disclosures as reviews and potential administrative decisions continue.
