LLANO, California, — A fast-moving brush fire dubbed the Summit Fire erupted early Friday afternoon in the Antelope Valley community of Llano, near the Los Angeles–San Bernardino county line, rapidly expanding under hot, dry and windy conditions. First reported at about 12:50 p.m. near Jesus Canyon Road and East Avenue Z, the blaze initially burned through roughly eight acres of brush before explosive growth pushed it past 1,300 acres within a few hours. By around 3 p.m., officials measured the fire at about 805 acres with no containment reported and said it had the potential to reach 1,000 acres by late afternoon, as crews worked to keep flames away from homes and other buildings in the area. Authorities issued an evacuation order for Zone LAC-E107, instructing residents to leave immediately, while evacuation warnings remained in effect for Zones LAC-E1340 and LAC-E127-C, where residents were told to pack essential belongings and be prepared to depart at short notice. Ten air tankers were dispatched to drop water and retardant on the fire and were placed under a no-divert order so they could not be reassigned to other incidents. Air Attack commanders requested a Very Large Airtanker and three additional standard airtankers to reinforce fire lines as crews from both Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties arrived to establish defensive perimeters. Officials reported damage to some outbuildings, said occupied structures were in the path of the flames, and noted that neither a cause nor a containment percentage had yet been determined.
