United States comedian likens Trump to 'White Obama'

A resurfaced video clip shared on July 4 by Trevor Noah features comedian Josh Johnson explaining why he believes many critics underestimate Donald Trump’s political appeal. In an episode of Noah’s “What Now?” podcast, recorded earlier and reposted to Facebook, Johnson calls Trump a “White Obama,” arguing that Trump resonates with some White Americans who feel their struggles and stories of overcoming hardship are largely ignored. Johnson contrasts widely recognized narratives of Black perseverance with what he describes as overlooked White experiences of adversity, such as family histories of poverty, crime, or discrimination, that some supporters see reflected in Trump.
