DC Studios’ new superhero film Supergirl is on track for a significant box office loss, with industry forecasts suggesting a deficit exceeding $100 million. The film has earned $37.1 million domestically and $74.3 million worldwide against an estimated $170 million production budget and about $120 million in global marketing, for total costs near $290 million. Analysts say it would need roughly $425 million worldwide to break even, a target considered unlikely based on current performance. The underperformance follows May 2026 backlash to lead actress Milly Alcock’s controversial comments and reports of creative clashes between DC co-CEO James Gunn and director Craig Gillespie.
