American Rower Completes Solo California-to-Hawaii Record-Breaking Journey Today

Honolulu — Kelsey Pfendler, a 32-year-old Grand Canyon river guide, completed a solo row from Monterey, California, to Ala Wai Boat Harbor in Honolulu after launching on May 21 and spending 43 days at sea in her 21-foot boat Lily. The crossing covered more than 2,400 miles and was tracked extensively via her social media updates this month. Friday night a large crowd and members of the Hawaii Yacht Club welcomed her arrival; initial timing indicates Pfendler eclipsed the previous women's record of 86 days, 10 hours and five minutes and appears to have beaten the men's mark of 52 days according to Ocean Rowing Society International records. ORSI has been notified and will adjudicate official record recognition in the coming days.
