Hollywood: Seth Rogen details Anne Hathaway Knocked Up exit

United States – Actor Seth Rogen has confirmed that Anne Hathaway exited the lead female role in the 2007 comedy film “Knocked Up” because of objections to a graphic prosthetic childbirth sequence. Speaking on the latest episode of The A24 Podcast alongside filmmaker Olivia Wilde, Rogen said Hathaway withdrew during the early rehearsal phase after she was shown an explicit crowning shot, created with specialized film prosthetics, that depicts a baby’s head emerging during medical delivery. He said Hathaway communicated directly with the production team to express that the highly graphic nature of the delivery scene made her uncomfortable. United States – Rogen told Wilde that Hathaway said the visual depiction of a child crowning did not align with her personal brand, and she ultimately chose to leave the project rather than proceed with the sequence as written. Wilde, who had auditioned for the same lead role of Alison, asked Rogen to clarify long-circulating industry rumors about the childbirth scene, and he confirmed they were accurate. After Hathaway’s departure, the production recast the character with Katherine Heigl. Rogen added that while other factors may have existed, he accepted Hathaway’s stated objection to the graphic footage as her reason for stepping away.
