July infrastructure projects begin as DC readies fireworks

Washington, D.C. — The National Independence Day Parade began at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, and fireworks were scheduled about 11:30 p.m.; organizers expected more than a million attendees and planned roughly 850,000 fireworks for a roughly 40-minute display. On Monday, July 13, Bay City and Sioux City will start separate infrastructure projects. Bay City drivers face an intersection closure between South Water, Webster and Lafayette from Monday, July 13 to Sunday, Nov. 1 with signed detours for northbound and southbound traffic; Sioux City's Nebraska Street water-main replacement will proceed in stages through 2026 and 2027 with phased work and street reconstructions requiring lane changes, new poles, and utility relocations this week.
