MADISON, Wis. — UW-Madison announced Wednesday that Shawn Eichorst will serve as the university’s next athletic director, returning to his home state after serving as deputy athletic director and chief operating officer at Texas. The university named Eichorst following its search process; he previously served as athletic director at Miami (2011–12) and Nebraska (2012–17). Interim Chancellor Eric Wilcots said Wednesday the hire is intended to build on program excellence and cited Eichorst’s experience and commitment to student-athlete welfare; the announcement comes about 2½ months after Chris McIntosh stepped down to join the Big Ten office.
