Eastbourne, England: Bergs wins first ATP title

Belgium’s Zizou Bergs captured his first ATP Tour title at the Eastbourne Open, defeating France’s Ugo Humbert 3-6 6-1 6-4 in a rain-delayed final completed on Sunday, June 28. The 27-year-old became the first Belgian player to win a grass-court ATP title in the Open Era. After dropping the opening set, Bergs raised his level behind a stronger second serve while Humbert’s unforced errors climbed from three in the first set to 16 in the second. Bergs secured a decisive third-set break for 4-3 and calmly served out the match, celebrating with his team courtside. He will face Humbert again in Wimbledon’s first round.
