Washington regulators close probe into Honda Odyssey airbags

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed its preliminary evaluation into 441,002 Honda Odyssey minivans after a voluntary recall by American Honda Motor Co. addressed an airbag defect. Announced on Saturday, June 27, 2026, the decision ends a multi‑month federal inquiry into 2018–2022 model year Odyssey vehicles. NHTSA opened the probe in October 2025 following numerous complaints that side and side curtain airbags deployed unexpectedly during normal driving over potholes, speed bumps, or debris. A joint technical analysis found incorrect deployment parameters in the DENSO‑supplied SRS electronic control unit, which misread normal vibrations as severe side‑impact collisions.
