New York — The Dallas Mavericks selected Morez Johnson Jr. with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft on Tuesday, reuniting the 6-foot-9 forward with Dusty May, who was hired as the Mavericks’ head coach the same day. Johnson transferred from Illinois to Michigan and started on Michigan’s title-winning team. At Michigan this season Johnson averaged 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds while expanding his three-point shot to 34.3% (12-for-35); he also has international experience from the 2025 FIBA U19 team.
