Los Angeles court rejects emergency custody request

A Los Angeles family court has declined an emergency bid by James Heerdegen to alter custody arrangements with his ex-wife, actress Christina Ricci, following an alleged in-flight drinking incident involving their 11-year-old son, Freddie. Heerdegen sought modified custody and mandatory alcohol testing for Ricci after receiving June 16, 2026 text messages from the child claiming she was drinking and behaving worryingly on a commercial flight to Canada. Court filings from the child’s court-appointed counsel later reported that Freddie admitted he had overreacted and mischaracterized events, expressed no fear of his mother’s care, and prompted the judge to deny Heerdegen’s request and order related records sealed to protect the boy’s mental health.
