ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Dusty May, who joined Michigan basketball in spring 2024 and coached the Wolverines to the April 2026 national championship, is leaving Michigan this week to become head coach of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, multiple outlets reported Monday; ESPN first reported the move and AP/Sportsnet said a contract is being finalized. The move follows the Mavericks dismissing Jason Kidd after Masai Ujiri became president of basketball operations; May is expected to lead a roster featuring Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel had announced a long-term agreement with May days after the title, and the program now faces a rapid coaching search and a 15-day player transfer window.
