Wyndham Clark set a new 36-hole scoring record at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, on Friday, June 19, 2026, to lead the 126th U.S. Open by four strokes. The 2023 U.S. Open champion completed a weather-delayed first round with a 6-under-par 64, the lowest opening-round score in U.S. Open history at Shinnecock Hills, then added a 1-under-par 69 in the afternoon for a 7-under-par 133 total. Clark managed shifting wind conditions, highlighted by a birdie-birdie-eagle stretch and a 35-foot birdie on the 18th.
