The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is preparing to define specific verification steps for implementing the newly signed U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding on Iran’s nuclear program, Director General Rafael Grossi said on June 18, 2026. The move follows Wednesday night’s formal signing of a framework peace deal by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The IAEA will focus on confirming the down-blending of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and setting up monitoring measures to ensure compliance. Technical teams will work with Washington and Tehran during the agreement’s 60-day intensive negotiation window, shifting the process from political talks to technical verification.

Why it matters
This nuclear deal could affect global stability and oil prices, which can trickle down to your gas pump. Watch for any changes in fuel costs over the next few months. Also, if you have family in the military, this could impact deployment decisions.
