Atlanta flight makes emergency landing after engine fire

A Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles made an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport this afternoon after passengers observed flames coming from the right engine shortly after takeoff. The flight crew declared an in-flight emergency and returned to the airport, where emergency crews were standing by. All 182 passengers and crew evacuated the aircraft via emergency slides. No injuries were reported, but several passengers were evaluated for possible smoke inhalation. The Federal Aviation Administration cited a suspected mechanical failure in the engine, and the National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the incident.
