Washington orders 72-hour patch deadline for agencies

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued a new directive requiring all civilian federal agencies to remediate critical internet-facing vulnerabilities within 72 hours of identification. Announced Wednesday, the mandate significantly shortens earlier timelines for addressing serious digital security flaws. CISA attributed the change to the growing use of advanced artificial intelligence by hackers to rapidly discover and exploit software weaknesses. Agencies must fix, disable, or remove affected systems and report remediation status to CISA.
