United States health authorities have announced a nationwide recall of multiple green superfood dietary supplements after federal testing detected Salmonella in certain production lots. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the action targets products manufactured and distributed by Total Nutrition Incorporated and sold under the TNVitamins and Doctor’s Pride brand names. The recall specifically covers TNVitamins Ultra Potent Complete Green Superfood Capsules and Doctor’s Pride Complete Green Superfood Capsules, which were pulled following routine quality control tests that found the pathogenic bacteria in raw ingredient mixtures used to make the capsules. United States regulators warned that Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness that may lead to severe abdominal cramps, persistent diarrhea, fever, nausea and vomiting, and can be especially dangerous for young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Total Nutrition Incorporated has halted distribution and sale of all affected batches while investigators trace the contamination through the agricultural supply chain. The FDA urged consumers to immediately stop using the recalled capsules and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. No confirmed hospitalizations or serious injuries had been reported at the time of the recall announcement, but health agencies are monitoring for related cases.
