Hackers from the ShinyHunters group have published what they claim are more than 42 million customer records stolen from Charter Communications, the operator of Spectrum internet, cable, and mobile services in the United States. According to the attackers, the breach began on April 1, 2026, when they used voice phishing to socially engineer a Charter employee and compromise a Microsoft Entra account. From there, they accessed Charter’s Salesforce environment and exported customer data, including names, email and home addresses, phone numbers, account plan details, and support ticket information. ShinyHunters leaked the data after an alleged ransom deadline passed on May 27, 2026.
