Baltimore — Jackson Holliday hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning that traveled 337 feet and slipped just over the left-field wall under the foul pole at Camden Yards, coming to rest on the concrete block supporting the pole. The unusual blast gave the Orioles a 6-4 lead and proved decisive in Baltimore’s 7-4 win over the Detroit Tigers. Tigers left fielder Riley Greene ran in and briefly searched for the ball after failing to make the play, and Detroit pitcher Jack Flaherty reacted with visible incredulity. Statcast identified the homer as the shortest out-of-the-park left-field home run at Camden Yards since 2015. Holliday also singled in the third inning, drew a walk and scored twice. He was activated by the Orioles on Monday after being placed on the injured list March 22 following surgery on the hamate bone in his right hand, and had spent the first eight weeks of the season in the minors, where he batted .176 with a double, triple, home run and five RBIs in 22 games. The top overall pick in the 2022 amateur draft batted .242 in 2025 with 17 homers and 55 RBIs and made his major-league debut in 2024. Saturday’s scheduled game was postponed because of rain and set as part of a split doubleheader Sunday; in the opener Colton Cowser hit a three-run, ninth-inning homer for a 5-3 Orioles win, extending Detroit’s losing streak.
