WASHINGTON – Speaking in Washington on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Americans’ financial struggles do not influence his decision-making on Iran, stressing that his top priority is preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Asked whether domestic economic pain motivates him to pursue an agreement with Iran, Trump responded, “Not even a little bit.” He said that in discussions about Iran, “they can’t have a nuclear weapon,” and that he does not weigh U.S. citizens’ financial situation when shaping his approach to the issue. Trump added that his thinking on Iran is focused on a single goal: ensuring the country does not acquire a nuclear weapons capability. He said he does not consider the economic consequences for Americans or the financial concerns of any group when making decisions related to Iran’s nuclear program. According to Trump, the overriding consideration guiding his policy is that the United States “cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” which he described as the only thing that matters in this context.
