United States – Singer Dua Lipa has filed a federal lawsuit against Samsung Electronics, seeking $15 million in damages over what she alleges was the unauthorized commercial use of her image on the packaging of Samsung television sets. The complaint centers on a photograph taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024, which her legal team states she exclusively owns under copyright. According to the filing, Samsung reproduced the backstage image on retail TV boxes without obtaining a license or providing any compensation, despite the photo’s asserted status as Lipa’s copyrighted work. United States – The lawsuit further claims that featuring the image prominently on packaging could mislead consumers into believing that Lipa had officially endorsed or partnered with Samsung, thereby exploiting the commercial value of her global brand. Her lawyers are seeking the $15 million sum on the basis of lost licensing fees and the broader market value of her publicity and image rights. The case was lodged in federal court and is expected to scrutinize the contractual and copyright permissions associated with photography from the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival. Samsung Electronics has not yet issued an official public response to the allegations.
