CHICAGO. A suspect, Alphanso Talley, allegedly shot two Chicago police officers inside Swedish Hospital on Saturday at about 11 a.m., killing Officer John Bartholomew and critically wounding a second officer after officers had brought Talley to the facility following an earlier alleged armed robbery. He fled briefly but was later recaptured and charged with murder, attempted murder and multiple related felonies, authorities said. Chicago Police said the case prompted a temporary closure of the hospital and drew criticism Monday from police union leaders and elected officials who raised concerns about electronic monitoring and judicial release practices; Cook County prosecutors and a judge scheduled detention and other hearings for Talley on Monday and Tuesday as the investigation continues.
