In southern Lebanon, authorities reopened the Qasmiyeh bridge on Friday, only hours after it was bombed by Israeli forces shortly before a 10‑day ceasefire with Israel took effect at midnight. The crossing is a vital route for tens of thousands of displaced people seeking to return home following weeks of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The war began on March 2, when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in response to the killing of Iran’s supreme leader at the outset of the wider Middle East war, prompting Israeli air strikes and a ground invasion. Lebanese officials report over 2,100 dead and more than one million displaced.
