South Bend, Indiana — Former Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz died Wednesday at age 89, the university said. Holtz led Notre Dame to a 12–0 season and the 1988 national championship, won 249 career collegiate games and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008. He coached at William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota and South Carolina, where he rebuilt the program from 0–11 in 1999 to consecutive Outback Bowl wins.
