'For the good of our country...': Trump seeks to increase 2027 military budget to 1.5 trillion dollars

US President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that, after negotiations with lawmakers and officials, he wants the 2027 military budget raised to USD 1.5 trillion from USD 1 trillion, saying tariff revenues make it possible to build a “dream” force, pay down debt, and issue dividends to moderate-income patriots. A 2026 budget briefing by the Under Secretary of War (Comptroller) touted plans to “restore peace through strength.” The Senate previously passed a USD 901 billion defense policy and spending bill for fiscal 2026, according to Al Jazeera.
