Washington Preservation group National Trust for Historic Preservation sued President Donald Trump on Friday, asking a federal court to stop construction of his planned White House ballroom until officials complete required design reviews, hold public comment periods and obtain congressional approval. The complaint filed in U.S. District Court says the administration demolished the East Wing and proceeded with a 90,000‑square‑foot $300 million ballroom without mandated reviews, alleging violations of the Administrative Procedure Act, National Environmental Policy Act and other statutes.
