Washington The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday temporarily blocked a lower-court order that found Texas’ 2026 congressional map likely discriminates on the basis of race. Justice Samuel Alito, who handles emergency appeals from Texas, signed an administrative stay that will remain for several days while the court considers whether to allow the Republican-favored map to be used in next year’s midterm elections for congressional seats. Texas had asked for emergency intervention to avoid confusion as congressional primaries approach in March. A federal panel had ruled 2-1 that challengers were likely to prevail.
