The Kansas City Royals benefited by adding experienced bullpen depth on a one-year, low-risk contract, gaining a former Tigers closer who could contribute if he returns to prior form.
Alex Lange suffered short-term career uncertainty after a lat injury and subsequent release by Detroit, putting his immediate ability to secure a stable MLB role at risk during recovery.
