Company blames 'unusual' traffic spike before outage

Cloudflare suffered an outage Tuesday that knocked major websites offline for users worldwide. Shopify, Indeed, Anthropic's Claude, Donald Trump's Truth Social, and Elon Musk's X appeared affected, according to Downdetector, which also had access issues for some users. OpenAI said ChatGPT and Sora were impacted by a third-party provider problem. Cloudflare reported a spike in unusual traffic around 6:20 a.m. ET, with the cause unknown, and said a fix was in progress by 9:22 a.m. ET. Shares fell more than 3%, as the incident followed recent outages at AWS, Microsoft Azure and 365.
