Waymo robotaxi kills beloved Mission bodega cat | JQJO

San Francisco’s Mission District is mourning Kit Kat, a beloved bodega tabby known as the Mayor of 16th Street, after a Waymo self-driving taxi ran him over outside Delirium bar on Oct. 27. Witnesses said the car drove away. A shrine and meme coins sprang up as grief fed a larger fight over robotaxis: a city supervisor urged state leaders to grant local control, while critics decried automation’s spread. Waymo said the cat darted under its vehicle and cited data showing far fewer serious crashes than human drivers; Mayor Daniel Lurie defended the service.
