In February 1982, Apple’s Chris Espinosa ended Steve Jobs’ relentless critiques of a Mac calculator by building a tool that let Jobs tweak every visual parameter himself. Within ten minutes, Jobs settled on a look that shipped with the Macintosh in 1984 and stayed largely unchanged through Mac OS 9, according to Andy Hertzfeld’s Folklore.org. The episode highlights early, forward-thinking visual design tools and a management style where Jobs judged by direct use. Donn Denman later handled the math functions. You can still try the original calculator via the Infinite Mac website.
