Washington's Daron Payne was suspended one game without pay after punching Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on Sunday, the NFL said Monday. Payne was ejected in the second quarter of the Commanders’ 44-22 loss, his first career ejection, after Detroit’s third first-half touchdown and a verbal exchange. Washington’s Javon Kinlaw claimed St. Brown threw the first punch; St. Brown said he spoke to Payne before Payne swung. Payne can appeal. With the Commanders set to face the Dolphins in Madrid next Sunday, he would be eligible to rejoin the team the following day.
