Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne was suspended one game without pay after punching Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, the NFL said. Payne was ejected in the second quarter for violating rules covering the principles of sportsmanship and prohibiting strikes to an opponent’s head or neck. He can appeal. If it stands, he won’t travel with the Commanders to Madrid or play Sunday against the Dolphins, and can rejoin the team Monday, November 17. With a $19.56 million base salary, he’ll forfeit about $1.087 million, the value of one game check.
