The NFL suspended Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne one game without pay for punching Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown during Washington’s 44-22 loss. Payne can appeal; if upheld, he’ll miss Washington’s game against the Dolphins in Madrid and be eligible to return Nov. 17. The punch came early in the second quarter after Jahmyr Gibbs’ 13-yard touchdown, his second score. Payne was ejected, while teammate Javon Kinlaw drew an unsportsmanlike flag after contacting an official. Kinlaw claimed St. Brown struck first; St. Brown described a prior scuffle. Coach Dan Quinn urged discipline at halftime.
